It is freedom to express one’s opinions openly. It means being able to speak out against the government of the day without fear of reprisals. In a democracy, the law guarantees the right of every individual to express his or her views.
Freedom of Expression Checklist
- 1. Are there free and independent media and other forms of cultural expression?
- Are religious institutions and communities free to practice their faith and express themselves in public and private?
- Is there academic freedom and is the educational system free of extensive political indoctrination?
- Is there open and free private discussion?
